ゲルマン神話と北欧神話に登場するトールは、空の神オーディンの長男で、悪の神ロキの弟。 古ノルド語のthorr（雷）、原ゲルマン語*のthunraz（稲妻）が語源。

Odin's eldest son, strongest of the gods though not the wisest, c.1020, from Old Norse Torr, literally "thunder," from *tunroz, related to Old English tunor (see thunder (n.)). His weapon was the hammer mj?lnir ("crusher").
