recoup

• vt. 回収する；回復する；弁償する；差し引く
• 賠償金を受け取る；控除を請求する

フランス語のrecouper「切り詰める」から、re-「後方」、backward「後方」、-coup「切る」、coup「クーポン」、cope「対処する」と語源は同じ。原義はコストを削減する、損失を補填する、であるが、後にリターンに回復するという意味で使われるようになった。
