thymus

• 胸腺

ラテン語のthymus（胸腺）、ギリシャ語のthymos（イボのような腫瘍）から。ギリシャの有名な医師ガランが胸腺を指すために借用した言葉で、語源的にはthymon（タイム）と同じ。この名前は、おそらくタイムのつぼみの形に由来する。
